Metro Dentalcare Trades Scary Sweets for Cash and Community Contributions

Kids can sell back extra candy at Halloween parties to encourage good oral health and support charities

RICHFIELD, Minn. (October 25, 2010) —Halloween candy is about to pour into households all across the Twin Cities, and for the third year running kids can turn their sweets into cash and donations for a local charity. Metro Dentalcare is hosting its third annual Halloween candy buy-back at several metro-area clinics on Nov. 1, and will donate the collected sweets, along with toothbrushes and toothpaste, to Operation Gratitude, an organization that ships care packages to troops overseas. In addition, for every pound of candy collected, Metro Dentalcare will donate a non-perishable food item, toothbrushes and toothpaste to Second Harvest Heartland.

“Candy and other sugary snacks are a part of Halloween and the upcoming holiday season, but moderation is key to keeping teeth healthy,” said Dr. Melissa Naidyhorski, from Metro Dentalcare Chanhassen. “Sweets like chocolates are a better option than sour, sticky candy, which is acidic and stays in the mouth longer.”

As an extra treat, Minnesota Twins mascot T.C. will be at the Burnsville Children’s Dentistry location from 6 to 7 PM to greet kids, families and take pictures. Metro Dentalcare is proud to be the team dentists to the Minnesota Twins.

What: Turn left over candy into cash. Participating Metro Dentalcare practices are offering $1 per pound of candy to children 12 and under, up to three pounds per child. Kids and their families will be treated to healthy snacks, a free toothbrush and toothpaste and prizes.
